Meet Giota & Sophie

Sourdough Society: A Story of Love, Heritage & Wholesome Bread

Picture the warm, golden mornings of Greece. Every summer, Giota, our baker, was sent off to spend time with her grandparents, where life moved at a different pace—one that followed the rhythms of nature, family, and tradition. She remembers waking up before the sun fully rose, her Yia Yia waking her up to take a ride to the bakery right when they opened.

Hand in hand with her grandmother, she would step onto the sun-kissed stone paths, the scent of fresh bread guiding them before they even reached the shop.

The baker knew them by name, always handing Giota a still-warm loaf to hold on the way home—crisp on the outside, airy and soft within. That simple act of sharing fresh bread became one of her most cherished childhood memories. It was more than food; it was love, connection, and a way of life.

Back home, Giota grew up in the food business. Family owned diners, ice cream shops, it was where she felt most at home, where she belonged.

Feeding people was second nature to her, just as Yia Yia had taught—food wasn’t just about sustenance; it was about love, health, and bringing people together.

Years later, Sophie met Giota and they fell in love. One of their greatest passions together has been wholesome, delicious food, cooking for one another, and enjoying those early summer mornings at the bakeries she would frequent with her Yia Yia when she was a child.

Together, they dreamed up Sourdough Society—a place that embodies those early mornings in Greece, the warmth of fresh bread, and the joy of feeding others with intention.

At Sourdough Society, we believe in the power of food—not just to nourish the body but to bring people together. Our bread and other creations are slow-fermented, made with care, and deeply rooted in tradition.

Every loaf carries the essence of health, well-being, and the beautiful simplicity of the Mediterranean way of life.

Sourdough Society is more than a bakery.

It’s a love letter to Yia Yia, to Greece, to the tradition of breaking bread with the ones we love.

Every bite is a connection to the past, a moment of joy in the present, and a promise to keep the art of wholesome, soulful food alive for generations to come.

Welcome to the Sourdough Society—where family, culture, and the love of good bread bring us all together.
